Tang, a sophomore at East China University of Science and Technology, took a bus from Shanghai Fengxian on April 29 and arrived in Beijing Luzhuang on May 4, spending only 381 yuan to complete the 1,810-kilometer trip almost the entire time he was on the bus.
Tang posted a 16-minute video on May 9 on the B station, showing all his journey from start to finish. The first few days, what time to what time, which bus route, how many stops, how many kilometers per class, how much total mileage, all were recorded in detail. The video shows that Tang started from Shanghai, passing through Suzhou, Wuxi, Taizhou, Yangzhou, Huai’an, Suqian, Xuzhou, Jining, Tai’an, Jinan, Dezhou, Hengshui, Baoding, and finally came to Beijing.
In response, Weibo users commented, “Such an experience is also a kind of education, which shows that China’s transportation network is developed and orderly.” “Imagine the ancient people who went to Beijing to take the exam.” Many netizens praised “very legendary”, “such a trip is too difficult”, “seeking strategy”.
This is not the first time Tang traveled by bus. 2019, he took a bus from Shanghai to Nanjing; in March this year, he also tried to take a bus from Wenzhou to Shanghai, and the whole process of both rides was posted on the B site.
In the video, Tang explained his reasons for traveling by bus: to go out and play, there are only two purposes, a unique view, or a unique experience, “I think taking the bus is very consistent with such characteristics.” Tang recalls, “The most exaggerated day, catching the first bus at 5:30 a.m. and arriving at the destination only at 10 p.m., a full 16 hours.”
1810 kilometers, took six days and five nights, and the ticket was 381 yuan. The experience along the way is full of surprises – in the Soviet-Lu provincial border, where public transport is not connected, he had to take the “fire tricycle”; during May Day, there is a section of the bus waiting for a few trips did not squeeze up, and finally had to take a taxi. Tang also lost his camera, in order to retrieve it, he could only keep recalling all the buses he had taken on the day he lost his camera, calling one by one, and finally found it in the bus company.
Tang said that it was unexpected to be on the hot search. Usually, he is a geography fan, the trip was spent five or six days planning, he found that the route, the bus ring, but further north is more difficult, so the end hit in Beijing. Based on the experience of two previous trips, Tang prepared a light backpack, a 20,000 mAh rechargeable battery, and some compressed biscuits for himself, and the trip was generally comfortable.
On this trip, Tang was surprised by the gradual changes in architectural styles, regional landscapes, and the dialects and customs of the people from south to north. The geographic knowledge and customs from the previous textbooks were thus visualized. “It was fun to connect the two big cities step by step, point by point, through the bus.” Tang said that although it is true that the bus is not as convenient as compared to high-speed rail and airplane, but by traveling by bus, you can feel the charm of dialects and humanities of different places, and will intuitively appreciate how big the country really is, which feels very down-to-earth.
