Hong Kong TV’s Chinese Journalists Resign

The entire editorial staff of Hong Kong’s authoritative Chinese television news outlet, Cable China Group, announced their resignation in protest against the management’s unjustified dismissal of news department employees.

CNBC laid off nearly 100 employees on Tuesday, including 40 news department employees, and those affected will have to leave immediately. The entire staff of the award-winning investigative reporting team “News Needle” was laid off.

NUC’s reporters have been based in mainland China for many years, staying close to the news of mainland Chinese rights activists and often reporting on local government corruption. CNU has also produced a number of historical features, including documentaries on political movements since 1949, in which it has traveled throughout China and interviewed many of the people who have witnessed the history of the country.

However, since Cable changed ownership three years ago, the management has been questioned as taking orders from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the People’s Republic of China (LOCPG), the resources of the news department have been tightened, and there have been repeated reports of management interference in the news department’s operations.
