Human Rights Lawyer Wang Yu’s Law License Revoked

Human rights lawyer Wang Yu received a phone call Monday from the Beijing judicial bureau informing her that her lawyer’s license had been revoked.

According to the Epoch Times website, Wang Yu said that the authorities in Beijing cancelled her law license as a fallout from the 709 arrests, and that the authorities chose this point to make the announcement because of the international focus on the U.S. election, as well as holidays and vacations in Western countries, which the authorities felt they could take advantage of.

Wang Yu also said, “The environment in China is very harsh, and the human rights situation is at its lowest point. Lawyers are under a lot of pressure and crackdowns, and the Judicial Bureau, the Law Society, and law firms are putting all kinds of pressure on lawyers. Many lawyers really don’t have the means to do some work. Including some human rights cases, it is now very difficult to find lawyers to represent them or to be able to represent them with some results.”
