Double-negative certificate required to go to China” Overseas Chinese completely cut off from returning to China

From the “Five and One” policy to the “meltdown” of flights to the current “double-negative certificate” within 48 hours, the tightening of policies on travel to China has caused many overseas Chinese to despair, and Chinese in Germany are no exception.

On October 31, Deutsche Welle reported that the Chinese embassies in Germany, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Italy and other countries have issued emergency notices on their websites, requiring people traveling to China by flight to complete a nucleic acid and IgM antibody sampling and test at a local testing facility within 48 hours before boarding the flight, apply to the local Chinese embassy or consulate and obtain a health code or a declaration of health status. The notice also requires that the second nucleic acid test and the serum IgM antibody test must be performed in the transit country for persons traveling to China from the embassy’s country of origin via a third country, with a time limit for the test.

According to an announcement made by the Chinese Embassy in Germany on Friday (Oct. 30), the above measures will take effect on Nov. 6 this year, and the previous practice of boarding flights with paper reports of nucleic acid tests from Centogene testing centers at Frankfurt and Hamburg airports will be suspended as of Nov. 6. The notice also emphasizes that, as a matter of principle, the Chinese Embassy in Germany will no longer accept applications for health codes or declarations of health status for passengers traveling to China via third countries as of November 6, as many transit airports do not have these tests. Therefore, the Embassy recommends that persons traveling from Germany to China take direct flights to China after the inspection in Germany.

The Embassy also advises passengers from outside Germany to avoid connecting flights to Germany. One of the reasons for this is that the current test site at Frankfurt Airport is not equipped for antibody testing, and the time required for a report to be issued by the testing facility in Frankfurt is long, sometimes several days, and there is no guarantee that the transit passenger will receive the test report on time.

However, the situation in Frankfurt as described in the notice is also a common phenomenon in Germany, which has discouraged many people in Dwarka from returning to their home country in the short to medium term. The frustration and discouragement is evident in the comments of various Chinese forums and related articles.
