Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said today (7) that the ban on citizens returning from epidemic-hit India will be lifted next week and three flights will be chartered to evacuate from India between the 15th and 31st.

Central News Agency reported that Morrison (Scott Morrison) insisted last month in accordance with the decision, issued a biosecurity order to prohibit people from all actions to and from India. And with penalties, anyone who wants to return to Australia via a third country to evade the rules will be imprisoned and fined.

Morrison said that this ban on entry and exit effectively prevented Australia quarantine hotel overflow.

This policy has been severely criticized by MPs, Australian expatriates and Indian expatriates.

Today, Morrison announced that three flights will be chartered to evacuate the diaspora between May 15 and 31, with priority given to approximately 900 citizens who may be most at risk of infection. The government estimates that there are currently around 9,000 Australian citizens and permanent residents in India.

Citizens who are scheduled to return to their home country must be certified negative for Communist Chinese Virus Disease (COVID-19) and must undergo a standard 14-day quarantine in accordance with immigration regulations.

Morrison said the Australian government is unlikely to agree to resume direct commercial flights from India to Australia in the near future, but will instead require state governments to accept additional evacuation flights.
