Israel’s Iron Dome short-range missile defense system worked Monday night, shooting down several rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists from Gaza, Breitbart News reported. In total, the terrorists fired about 150 rockets at civilians in Jerusalem and southern Israel.
Several videos circulating on social media show residents watching rockets in the sky as air raid sirens sound, and then seeing Iron Dome missiles fired at their targets and destroying them.
Of the more than 150 rockets, several landed in Israel causing damage, but there were no reports of fatalities.
The Iron Dome missile defense system was developed by Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and deployed with U.S. funding. The U.S. military has now purchased the Iron Dome missile defense system to protect U.S. forces from similar rocket attacks.
This week, the Palestinian leader raised tensions as Ramadan ended, and just days before the secular anniversary of Israel’s independence on May 15, Palestinian terror groups fired rockets from Gaza. Palestinians also rioted in Jerusalem ahead of an expected Israeli Supreme Court ruling (now postponed) on the fate of several homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, a property dispute that has been decades in the making.
Palestinian rioters used Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem as cover, and a group of stone-throwing Palestinians attempted to lynch an Israeli driver near the Old City. Israeli police entered the area to restore order, and Palestinian leaders mischaracterized the incident as an attack on the Al-Aqsa mosque, which Palestinians themselves have been using to launch attacks.
In all, more than 150 rockets were fired at Israel on Monday, The Jerusalem Post reported. According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli military said Israel conducted an airstrike on Gaza that killed 11 members of the Hamas terror group; the Palestinians claimed 20 people were killed, including nine minors. Hamas is known to use civilians as human shields.
The Biden administration cautions both sides while ignoring the fact that the violence is initiated and encouraged by Palestinians.
Last month, the Biden administration pledged hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to the Palestinians, which critics say violates U.S. laws against terrorist financing.
Ironically, the violence may have prevented a left-wing coalition from replacing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu .
