This year, the 32nd anniversary of June 4 will be the first time after the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong. Several members of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (HKASPDMC) set up a street station in Mongkok on Sunday (May 9), on the occasion of Mother’s Day, to collect signatures from the public for the June 4 memorial book and distribute candles, calling on the public not to forget to mourn June 4, and to make two preparations: if a large rally cannot be held on June 4, candles of mourning can be spread all over the place and photos uploaded to social networking sites.

The 32nd anniversary of the June 4 massacre in Beijing is approaching, and the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (HKASPDMC) has adopted “For Freedom, Common Destiny, Common Resistance” as the theme of this year’s mourning. For the first time since the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, whether the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (HKASPDMC) can continue its more than 30-year tradition of holding a candlelight vigil in Victoria Park has become the focus of attention.

According to the Voice of America, the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (HKASMC) said that even if the police oppose the June 4 candlelight rally, they cannot stop the public from holding candles on the streets, and that the HKASMC’s commitment to the June 4 victims and the Tiananmen Mothers is not a “light” commitment, and will not be easily abandoned due to pressure. Although police officers investigated the street stalls of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (HKASPDMC), members of the HKASPDMC continued to chant slogans that were considered by the pro-China media to be in violation of the National Security Law of Hong Kong, including “vindicate the 1989 pro-democracy movement, hold the massacre accountable, end one-party dictatorship, build a democratic China, release pro-democracy activists, release all political prisoners, stop political prosecutions, and release all political prisoners. “

The vice chairman of the Alliance, Zou Xingtong, said in a speech at the street station that the Alliance had applied to the police to hold a candlelight memorial rally for the 32nd anniversary of June 4 in Victoria Park in the evening of June 4 in accordance with the law, and before the police opposed the rally, the Alliance would still call on the public to attend the candlelight rally in Victoria Park that evening. Regardless of the situation and whether the police will suddenly oppose the rally, the Alliance will insist that there will be candlelight in memory of the June 4 victims in Victoria Park and in Hong Kong on the night of June 4. The Alliance will also set up street stalls to distribute candles to the public in advance of the June 4 anniversary, and call on the public to be prepared with both hands, to light candles wherever they are at 8pm on June 4, to spread candlelight in memory of the victims everywhere, and to upload photos to social networking sites. As long as June 4 is not vindicated, we will continue to persist in this mourning, whether online or offline, so that people can see that the candlelight of mourning will not be cut off by political suppression.”
