In Hong Kong, the former chairman of the Democratic Party Wu Zhiwei, who is returning to scabbard, applied to the Correctional Services Department earlier to attend his father’s funeral service on Friday, but the Department decided not to approve the application on security grounds, and only arranged to participate in a visual way.
The CSD said it noticed that the date, time and location of the funeral service was widely reported by social media, and there were also calls on the Internet for support on the day of the funeral service, after security assessment, in order to protect the safety of correctional officers, inmates and members of the public, decided not to approve the application.
Wu was arrested for allegedly violating the “Hong Kong National Security Law” for his participation in the Legislative Council primary election last year.
