In less than two months, the U.S. and Japan have reaffirmed peace in the Taiwan Strait three times! Xi Jinping is under a lot of pressure

Kyodo News reports that Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimichi Motegi held talks with U.S. Secretary of State John Blinken on March 3 ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of Seven industrialized nations (G7). The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in dealing with issues related to mainland China and reiterated the importance of maintaining stability and peace in the Taiwan Strait. It was another meeting between the two after Blinken’s visit in March.

A Japanese official also said that Toshimichi and Blinken also agreed to work closely on the denuclearization of North Korea and expressed “serious concern” over the continued crackdown on protesters by the Burmese authorities.

In addition, this is at least the third time recently that the U.S. and Japanese top brass have emphasized peace in the Taiwan Strait, following the 2+2 talks in mid-March and the U.S.-Japan leadership summit in April.
