Group photo: Hong Kong Alliance in Support of the June 4 commemoration of the “pillars of national mourning”

On May 2, the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China held a commemorative event at 6:04 pm to commemorate the June 4 Tiananmen Square Incident.

The Pillars of National Gothic were created by Danish sculptor Ko Chi-wood, and there are five of them, one of which has been stored on the HKU campus for a long time to commemorate the Tiananmen Square Incident on June 4. The Pillars of National Mourning are carved with a number of human figures, but all with distorted expressions, symbolizing the victims of repression and death.

The University of Hong Kong has previously indicated that it will take back the management of the student union room and other facilities, and the Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, Zou Xingtong, believes that the University’s decision may include the Pillar of Mourning. The Pillar of Mourning has been erected at the University for more than 20 years. The Pillar of Mourning is not an asset of the student union, but a symbolic monument, a work of art that symbolizes the freedom of expression of the University and cannot be separated from it.

The Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China is currently applying to the police to hold this year’s June Fourth Gala. Zou Xingtong said that he has not yet received a response from the police, and will therefore hold the rally in Victoria Park as originally planned.
