Afghan government forces battle Taliban, over 100 insurgents dead

The United States officially began withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan on May 1, but the Afghan Defense Ministry said today that more than 100 insurgents have been killed in the past 24 hours as government forces and the Taliban, a militia group, clashed across the country.

The Afghan Defense Ministry noted that the Taliban and government forces are fighting in several provinces inside the country.

The Defense Ministry mentioned that 52 Taliban fighters were also wounded in the clashes, but did not provide details on government forces’ casualties.

The Taliban have not commented on these armed clashes, but it is known that government forces and the Taliban tend to exaggerate each other’s casualty figures.
