Hungary officially opened for public vaccination on February 4 with the Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) vaccine developed by China National Pharmaceuticals, making Hungary the first EU country to use the Chinese vaccine. However, after mass vaccination with the Chinese vaccine, Hungary became the country with the highest mortality rate of Wuhan pneumonia in the world. Previously, Turkey, Brazil, and Chile also saw their diagnosis rates increase rather than decrease after receiving the Chinese Kexing vaccine.
Hungary has become increasingly pro-China in recent years, not only being the first country in the European Union to start vaccinating against China, but also treating China well at the diplomatic level, as it was rumored that the European Union wanted to “condemn China’s crackdown on Hong Kong”, but was blocked by Hungary.
Despite a rare admission by the director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Gao Fu, that the Chinese Wu Lung vaccine has shortcomings and admits its low effectiveness, Hungary has continued to import and administer the Chinese vaccine without the permission of the EU executive committee, and so far nearly a million people have been vaccinated with the Chinese national vaccine, as has Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
However, Hungary has the highest mortality rate in the world according to the number of deaths from the disease as a percentage of the population, with 285 deaths per 100,000 people in Hungary as of May 1, 10:00.
Hungary currently has a 30% vaccination rate, but with an average of 250 deaths per day, it also has the highest mortality rate in the EU, although neither the Hungarian government nor opposition leaders are currently calling for a halt to vaccinations imported from China and Russia.
