The exiles, who asked not to be named, said that four Hong Kong exiles who came to the U.S. via Taiwan and are now in New York, came to Washington to respond to the call of the “Milk Tea Coalition”. There were also exiled Hong Kong legislator Liang Songheng, former leader of the June 4 Movement, Wang Dan, and representative of the Hong Kong people’s organization “NY4HK” in the United States, Yang Jinxia.

Some Hong Kong people expressed their hope to speak out for Hong Kong’s brothers and sisters and to continue the struggle of Hong Kong people overseas. The Hong Kong people on the ground can not do because of the “Hong Kong National Security Law”, by them to do. She also pointed out that the scene met several exiles in Washington, the future hopes to unite the exile hands and feet, to support the exiles who have difficulties in adapting to life in the United States.

After the rally at the Washington Monument, members of the “Milk Tea Coalition” marched to the Chinese Embassy. Outside the embassy, former Hong Kong legislator Leung Chung Hang told the station that Chinese officials’ “war-wolf diplomacy” has intensified. Qin Gang, the Chinese vice foreign minister, was nominated to replace Cui Tiankai as the new ambassador to the United States, a change that will not change the fact that the world is witnessing China’s insistence on a path to totalitarianism.

Yang Jinxia, a representative of NY4HK, a Hong Kong-based organization that co-sponsored the event, said the Milk Tea Coalition wants to show the new Chinese ambassador to the U.S. that resistance will not stop just because of repression. Wang Dan, a leader of the 1989 student movement, said that oppressed countries and people everywhere need a platform to coordinate and help each other.

Members of the Milk Tea Coalition issued a statement condemning the Chinese Communist Party’s oppression of countries in the Indo-Pacific region; the mass arrests of pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong; and the coup d’état and indiscriminate killing of civilians by the Burmese military.
