Mongolians in Japan demonstrate against Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Japan

Dozens of Chinese Inner Mongolians living in Japan demonstrated in front of the Japanese parliament building to protest the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the second Mongolian demonstration in Japan since the introduction of a new bilingual education law in Inner Mongolia in August, calling international attention to the increasing Sinicization of Mongolian culture and demanding that the Chinese government abide by its own constitution.

Tara, an active participant in the demonstrations, told AGB that more than a thousand people demonstrated in front of the Chinese Embassy in Japan in September this year, demanding that the authorities withdraw the new education law. However, their appeal was not met with any response from the Chinese Embassy. But the situation in Inner Mongolia today is getting worse by the day, with thousands of arrests and detentions and information blackouts, making it impossible for the people of Inner Mongolia to speak out. Therefore, Mongolians abroad must come forward. Wang Yi’s visit to Japan is the first opportunity for them to speak out to the Chinese government in Beijing, hoping that the Beijing government will understand that there is no end to Mongolian repression and that Mongolians are determined to defend their language and culture.
