India broke records again this Sunday, with 350,000 people diagnosed with Newcastle and 2,767 deaths. The new wave of the epidemic is gaining momentum, and France, Germany, Britain and the United States have decided to rescue India in an emergency.
The French presidency announced on Sunday that it would provide “considerable oxygen support” to India within a few days. News from New Delhi on Saturday said a hospital was temporarily cut off from oxygen, resulting in the death of more than 20 people. Sources at the Elysee Palace said France will send its much-needed oxygen and ventilators to India via transport aircraft.
The Indian government has now deployed aircraft and military trains to deliver oxygen to the capital, New Delhi, on an emergency basis.
U.S. President Joe Biden’s national security adviser Sullivan announced Sunday that the U.S. would “immediately” send India the raw materials needed to make the new crown vaccine, as well as the necessary medical equipment. A White House spokesman said earlier that the U.S. is anxious about the dramatic increase in diagnoses in India and will increase medical assistance to the Indian government, including medicine, testing agents, ventilators, and protective equipment. The U.S. side also said it is studying the delivery of oxygen reserves to India. Reuters reported that Washington is very concerned about the health crisis facing India, the largest strategic ally in the Indo-Pacific region, and has decided to provide the maximum assistance possible.
Sullivan added that the U.S. has long provided “significant” financial assistance to India for the production of vaccines to help India produce 1 billion doses of the new crown vaccine now and next year. The U.S. government has not yet specified whether to send vaccines to India, and earlier, White House medical adviser Fauci said the U.S. should send tens of millions of doses of vaccines to India.
British Prime Minister Johnson announced on Sunday the shipment of 600 emergency medical equipment to India, as well as a considerable number of ventilators and oxygen cylinders. He said, “Britain supports India’s tremendous efforts to save so many lives from death.”
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday that Germany is preparing to provide emergency assistance to India.
European Commission President von der Leyen said the EU has launched the European Civil Protection Mechanism, which will provide emergency medical assistance to India quickly. The EU Civil Protection Mechanism, established in 2001, allows member states to provide emergency assistance to countries in large-scale emergencies under EU coordination.
Since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, 16.9 million people have been diagnosed and 192,000 have died from the new crown virus in India.
