Asian scavenger kicked in the head on the streets of New York in critical condition

An assault involving Asians occurred on the night of the 23rd in Harlem, Manhattan, New York. (Intercepted from the New York City Police Department to provide video)

An Asian man was kicked to the ground and then kicked in the head for no reason, causing him to be taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said that on the night of the incident, around 8:20 p.m., at the northeast corner of Third Avenue and East 125th Street, a 61-year-old Asian victim was attacked from behind by a man and fell to the ground, and after the victim fell to the ground, the suspect kicked him in the head several times before fleeing.

Police say a passing bus driver noticed the fallen victim at about 9 p.m. and called 911; a city police emergency medical services team arrived at the scene and took the victim to NYC Health+ Hospitals/Harlem for treatment. His injuries were serious, but his vital signs were generally stable.

Earlier on the 24th, a large amount of blood remained on the curb at the scene of the crime, and city police investigators continued to search for clues that the victim was a scavenger and that the shopping cart he was using to scavenge was full of cans and bottles when he was attacked; the city police Hate Crimes Task Force (NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force) was also involved in the investigation.

On the same day, police released surveillance video of the crime scene and the suspect’s physical description, who is dark in complexion and was last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants, white sneakers and a multi-colored baseball cap.

The public is urged to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS (8477) immediately if they see physical characteristics similar to those in the photo or video, or visit the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or send a message via cell phone to 274637 (CRIMES) and type in TIP577, or tweet @ NYPDTips, as well as through the Stop Crime mobile app “CS-NYC” to provide tips, the source of which is strictly confidential.

The Senate voted 94 to 1 on the 22nd to pass the Anti-Asian Hate Act, which aims to combat “Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders” (AAPI), with the only dissenting vote being that of Republican Senator Josh Hawley.
