A few days ago, a teacher’s dormitory floor of Jingzhi Primary School in Taojiang County, Yiyang City, Hunan Province, grew bamboo shoots, which recently caught fire in the circle of friends and became a “Netflix shoot”. Now the bamboo shoots are still growing, will have a certain impact on the school building, in order to be safe, the school is ready to dig out the “net red shoots” in the near future and make up the cement. Mo Xiaoyan is the office director of Taojiang County Jingzhi Primary School, and this bamboo shoot is growing out of her dormitory. 2019, Mo Xiaoyan entered Jingzhi Primary School after entering the education system, as a language teaching. At the end of March this year, Mo Xiaoyan was resting in her dormitory when she noticed a bump in the concrete floor with signs of cracking.
At first, Mo Xiaoyan thought it was the age of the house and did not care. But after less than a week, the cracked place arched higher and higher, as if there was something to grow out. Mo Xiaoyan called a colleague to pry open the arched concrete floor, only to find that a cup-sized bamboo shoot had grown out.
Mo Xiaoyan, who was surprised to see bamboo shoots growing inside the house for the first time, did not dig them up directly, but chose to let them accompany her and be her “roommate”, and recorded the growth of the bamboo shoots with her cell phone. As time went on, the bamboo shoots could grow about three centimeters per day. In less than 20 days, the bamboo shoots have now grown to the ceiling, reaching more than three meters high.
So why exactly did the bamboo shoots suddenly grow out of Mr. Mo’s dormitory? The principal of Jingzhi Primary School, Xiong Chengchan, said that the school building and dormitory of Jingzhi Primary School were built in the 1980s, and the school used to be a bamboo forest, which was only leveled because of the need to build the school building. But bamboo is strong, drought-resistant and cold-resistant, and there is a small bamboo forest outside the dormitory just a wall away, with new bamboo shoots growing around it every March. “It’s the first time that concrete has been broken directly from a faculty dormitory.”
After nearly a month together, Mo Xiaoyan also witnessed the bamboo shoots’ “tough and tenacious” character.
