In the question-and-answer session of the candidates, Kwok Pik-lin, who is running for the chairmanship of the Convocation, said that CUHK’s philosophy is not political and that the university has responded to the freedom of speech and academic freedom, and the Convocation remains neutral. She also believes that the university must comply with the “Hong Kong National Security Law”. Another candidate, Yang Yuming, said that the Alumni Council is a voice on behalf of the alumni, earlier the CUHK Student Union Officers’ Association Cabinet “Soyo night” was “illegal” by the university was “DQ”, alumni demanded Yang said the DQ was not ideal, but believed that the university had good intentions to protect students, hoping to repair the tear after being elected, and also indicated that it would ask the CUHK administration to retract the decision.

This time, CUHK Alumni Convocation registered a record attendance of more than 6,000 people, some alumni believe that the current political and social atmosphere in Hong Kong, it is difficult for people to vote fairly and equitably, CUHK is also involved in social events in recent years, by the establishment and the Chinese Communist Party official media pressure, alumni see this conference as a rare voice.
