Since October last year, precipitation in the southern region is low significantly, most of Fujian, eastern Guangdong, western Yunnan and other places in drought, is expected in May in central-eastern China and western Yunnan and other places continue to drought. Precipitation in Fujian and other seven provinces is the lowest in 50 years.
Comprehensive land media reports, since October last year (October 1, 2020 to April 18, 2021), the southern part of the mainland precipitation is significantly less, southern Jiangnan, most of South China and Yunnan and other places precipitation is less than the same period of two to fifty percent, of which most of Fujian, eastern Guangdong, western Yunnan is less than fifty percent or more.
It is expected that in May this year, southern Jiangnan, central and eastern China, most of southwest China and other parts of the drought continues. Among them, southern Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, western Sichuan, western Yunnan and other places precipitation and the same period of two to fifty percent less; Jiangnan, South China and most of Southwest temperature close to the same period of the year or high, the central and eastern parts of South China, western Yunnan and other places drought persists.
Guangdong meteorological department statistics, since late October last year, more than 70% of the province’s meteorological monitoring stations show a medium and above meteorological drought. The average precipitation in the province is 130.3 mm, 58% less than the same period in previous years, and the province’s reservoirs are in urgent need of water storage; the total water storage in large and medium-sized reservoirs is more than 20% less than the same period in previous years, and 4.48 billion cubic meters less than previous years.
Statistics also show that the Han River basin, which flows through the province, is experiencing a new 60-year low in precipitation, with an average of only 85.7 mm since October last year, a reduction of nearly 70% compared to the same period in previous years. The Han River basin involves Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangdong provinces, and is an important water source for nearly 11 million people in 24 counties (cities) in 8 cities.
Not only Guangdong Province, but also the six provinces (regions) of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan had the least amount of precipitation for the same period since 1961, with Fujian receiving 224.8 mm of precipitation, 60% less than the same period in previous years.
In the south, there are 53 counties and cities without precipitation continuously, among which 11 counties and cities such as Longling and Yongde in Yunnan and Fuan in Fujian break the historical extreme.
The water area of Poyang Lake in Jiangxi (1044 square kilometers) was 40% smaller than the same period on January 15; the total amount of water stored in large and medium-sized reservoirs in Zhejiang and Fujian was smaller than the same period in early February, and water supply was tight.
Meanwhile, the temperature in the south is generally high, among which the average temperature in Fujian Province is the highest in the same period in history since 1961, and the second highest in Guangdong.
