A former deputy police officer in Austin, Texas, was arrested on April 18 after allegedly shooting and killing three people in an apartment building on April 17. A gunshot was heard at a liquor store in Shreveport, Louisiana, on April 18, and five people were shot and sent to the hospital in critical condition.

The Central News Agency reported that the murder in Austin, Texas, occurred after the recent spate of mass shootings in the United States, so police launched an emergency response, in addition to rushing to the site of the incident, also blocked off the surrounding area, including a popular shopping area.

Authorities ruled the incident a domestic violence rather than an active shooter situation, and this afternoon lifted the shelter-in-place order and began searching for the suspect.

Austin Interim Sheriff Joseph Chacon noted that two women and one man were shot near noon, and that the shooter, 41-year-old Stephen Broderick, worked as a detective for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office in Austin. The shooter was 41-year-old Stephen Broderick, who worked as a detective for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office in Austin.

Chacon said, “This appears to be a domestic incident, and the victims are people the suspect knows.”

Local media reported last June that Burdry began staying without pay after being accused of child molestation at the time.
