Chinese embassy criticizes Canadian foreign minister for interfering with “rule of law” in Hong Kong

In response to Canadian Foreign Minister Garneau’s statement on the verdict of Lai Chi-ying, Li Chu-ming and others, the spokesman of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Embassy in Canada responded by pointing out that criticizing the Canadian side for its gross interference in China’s internal affairs, China expressed its strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition.

According to RTHK.com, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Canada said that Garneau made the so-called statement to deliberately interfere with the rule of law and judicial independence in Hong Kong. The spokesman said the legal basis for the Chinese Communist government to govern Hong Kong is the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China and the Basic Law of Hong Kong, not the Sino-British Joint Declaration. No country has any legal basis or qualification to invoke the Sino-British Joint Declaration to say anything about Hong Kong affairs.

In addition, the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China in Hong Kong criticized that some politicians from the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union have made unfounded accusations, malicious smears and even openly called for the release of Lai Chi-ying and Li Chu-ming, who were sentenced by the SAR court according to the law, and the spokesman expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition.
