Iranian authorities named Reza Karimi, 43, as the man behind the nuclear power plant attack, saying he has fled the country.
Iran says it has identified a suspect in connection with the recent explosion and power outage at the Natanz nuclear power plant. Iranian state television said Reza Karimi, 43, fled Iran “hours” before last Sunday’s blast, which Iran blamed on its main rival Israel.
Iranian state television showed a passport-style photo of Karimi, who was born in the city of Kashan near Iran.
“The necessary steps for his arrest and extradition to his country through legal means are underway,” the report added. .
Israel has not yet officially admitted responsibility for the attack, but has not imposed censorship restrictions on widespread coverage in local media, some of which have made it clear that the Israeli spy agency Mossad was responsible.
Iran announced after last Sunday’s attack that it would produce 60 percent enriched uranium, a further violation of the nuclear deal under which it can only enrich uranium to 3.67 percent purity to make reactor fuel, according to the BBC.
Interpol said it could not confirm whether Karimi was on the red list of wanted fugitives, according to the report.
Thousands of machines used to refine nuclear materials were destroyed or damaged in Natanz, said Alireza Zakani, director of Iran’s parliamentary research center.
Another official said the attack took place 50 meters (165 feet) underground in the facility.
