Iran restarts advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges just after nuclear deal talks

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced today (10) that Iran has reactivated 174 advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges. Iran only discussed with Russia, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China in Vienna on Tuesday (6) how to restore the effectiveness of the nuclear agreement signed in 2015.

According to information from Iranian state-run television, AFP reports that Iran has commissioned 164 IR-6 and 30 IR-5 advanced centrifuges at the famous Natanz underground fuel enrichment plant.

Today also happens to be Iran’s national nuclear technology anniversary, Rohani said in attendance at the ceremony that Iran’s development of nuclear energy is based purely on “peaceful” purposes.

The IR-6 and IR-5 not only operate more efficiently than the initial generation of centrifuges, but also produce higher purity enriched uranium, but the initial generation of centrifuges is the only model Iran can use according to the specifications of the 2015 nuclear deal.
