U.S. to sell Taiwan 400 Javelin missiles to strengthen Taiwan’s anti-armor warfare capabilities

According to the Ministry of Defense’s latest budget unfreeze report sent to the Legislative Yuan, the U.S. sold Taiwan 400 Javelin missiles and 42 systems, which will be delivered to Taiwan in 2022 in full, which will effectively strengthen Taiwan’s anti-armor warfare capabilities. The Ministry of National Defense also pointed out in the report that the purchase of medium-range anti-armor missiles is intended to “meet the basic needs of the Army’s anti-armor forces and strengthen the anti-armor combat capabilities of the garrison area command and outer islands”.

The company’s main objective is to provide the best possible solution to the problem.

The FGM-148 Javelin is a two-man anti-armor missile developed by the U.S. and is usually fired from the ground due to its heavy weight. As the current Javelin missile system is old, the rate of proper equipment and missile reliability will decrease year by year, so the Ministry of National Defense is planning to purchase new Javelin missile system and missile to maintain the anti-armor force’s combat capability.

The Ministry of Defense is planning to purchase 42 sets of new Javelin missile systems and 400 missiles, as well as training capabilities, overall logistical support, U.S. support services, and various backup parts, etc., for delivery to Taiwan in 2022. The new Javelin missiles will not only be assigned to troops in the outer islands and south-central Taiwan, but the defense forces of Greater Taipei will also deploy these medium-range anti-armor missiles. The Ministry of National Defense clearly stated in the report that “the procurement of medium-range anti-armor missiles is to meet the basic combat capability needs of the Army’s anti-armor forces and to strengthen the anti-armor combat capabilities of the garrison area command and the outer islands.
