The U.S. Department of State has condemned the Communist Party’s claim that the virus originated in the United States, stating that such claims are false and misleading.
The State Department has condemned the Communist Party’s claim that COVID-19 (the Chinese Communist virus) originated in the United States, saying that the claims it continues to spread are “false, unfounded and unscientific.
Officials in both the Trump and Biden administrations have said that for more than a year, the Chinese Communist Party has continued to obstruct independent investigations into the origin of COVID-19, and that officials in both administrations have expressed doubts about the WHO report on the origin of the virus due to excessive interference by the Chinese Communist authorities.
Peter Ben Embarek, the WHO mission’s lead investigator, said that after the Communist Party finally granted the mission access to China earlier this year, their access remained restricted and half of the team were Chinese citizens.
Since March last year, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian has been publicly spreading unfounded claims that the virus originated in a U.S. military lab, and official Chinese media have repeatedly tried to pin the source of the virus on the U.S. military.
Last Monday (March 29), Zhao Lijian again made this claim as the WHO made its report on the source of the outbreak public.
According to the Washington Examiner, a State Department spokesperson said, “The United States condemns the CCP’s false, unfounded and unscientific claims, which undermine the spirit and purpose of an impartial investigation into the origin of the virus.”
“We remain concerned about the misleading alternative theories on the origin of the virus put forward by the CCP,” the spokesperson said, adding, “We cannot know the origin and spread of the virus until the CCP fully discloses the actions it took, and the knowledge it has, in the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak. We draw conclusions based on data and science alone.”
Last week, just as the WHO report on the source of the outbreak was released to the public, Zhao Lijian again publicly stated at a regular press conference of the Chinese Communist Party’s Foreign Ministry that the virus did not originate in China and that it originated at the U.S. Army’s Fort Detrick, Maryland, biological laboratory.
“I can’t help but ask, when will the U.S. side be as open and transparent as the Chinese side when it comes to the epidemic and traceability?” When will WHO experts be invited to the U.S. to conduct traceability visits?” said Zhao Lijian. When will Fort Detrick be opened up for international experts to visit, investigate or study?”
Later, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying supported Zhao Lijian’s claim, pointing to the source of the virus as the U.S. military laboratory, and even mentioning that “in addition to Fort Detrick, a certain country has more than 200 biological bases around the world,” suggesting that the U.S. is responsible for the global public health crisis. To date, the virus has killed more than 2.86 million people worldwide.
In fact, the accusation of Fort Detrick as the source of transmission originally originated with the pro-Russian Global Research Canada. The agency was established in 2001 and is known for its “conspiracy theories”. In addition to this incident, it has also advanced conspiracy theories on 9/11, vaccines and other topics.
Last March, Zhao Lijian cited a report by the agency and tweeted that “U.S. military athletes brought the virus to Wuhan,” which led to accusations that Maatje Benassi, a female officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, was a “Patient Zero. Maatje Benassi, a female officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, was accused of being “Patient Zero” and having her personal life disrupted.
The report was later confirmed to be false and the article was removed. A series of claims by the Chinese Communist authorities to absolve themselves of responsibility are so absurd that they are only repeated by Communist officials and the Party media.
Whether Fort Detrick will be opened for investigation, a White House spokesman told the Washington Examiner, “If there were a reasonable and technically credible reason to take such a step, we would certainly support it. But there is no reason at this time.”
“If a future pandemic originated here or anywhere else, we would likewise insist on a prompt and transparent scientific assessment. In fact, that’s one of our concerns about this process, that we can’t let this incident, for example, set a terrible precedent for the future.” A White House spokesman said.
