Arkansas Governor Rebels Side with Democrats, Veto Ban on Adolescent Blockers for Children

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, announced Monday that he sided with far-left activists and opted to veto HB 1570, which would have banned the use of puberty blockers, hormone replacement surgery and gender reassignment surgery in young children.

Hutchinson said at a news conference, “I was told this week that the nation is watching Arkansas because I have the bill on my desk that the Legislature passed as a product of the culture war. I don’t shy away from fighting when it is necessary and defensible, but the Legislature’s recent actions, while well-intentioned, are off course, and I must veto House Bill 1570.”

The National Archives reports that transgender activists in Arkansas have waged a vigorous social media campaign to pressure Hutchinson to veto the bill.
