ASICS urgently clarified that misunderstanding

The Chinese Communist Party‘s violation of human rights of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang has triggered international sanctions, and more than 200 foreign companies said last year they refused to purchase cotton from Xinjiang. The topic was recently rehashed by Chinese Communist Party officials, leading to a boycott of a large number of well-known brands, including Nike, Adidas, Puma, Uniqlo, and Indy. The Japanese national treasure running shoe brand ASICS has recently taken a stand in support of Xinjiang cotton on Weibo, and the Chinese pink fifty cents have retweeted a lot of praise, and the media has used such emotionally charged words as “you do not buy Xinjiang cotton, I buy” to express their support for ASICS. It is not expected that the incident has reversed. The Australian media reported on the 29th, ASICS Japan headquarters to support the Xinjiang cotton issue for urgent clarification, that the Chinese microblogging statement on the issue is unauthorized and issued, and does not represent the official position of the company on the matter, and also refers to the Olympic team uniforms provided to Australia did not use Xinjiang cotton.

According to Australian Broadcasting Corporation ABC 29, ASICS headquarters held an emergency meeting on the afternoon of 28, after its spokesman said: “We are now clarifying that the questionable statement (on Weibo) was issued without authorization and does not represent the company’s official position on the matter.”

The spokesman added: “We can also confirm that the Australian Olympic team’s jerseys, which do not contain cotton originating from Xinjiang, are not produced in this region.”

The source told the ABC that the Chinese statement posted by ASICS on Weibo was supposedly issued by the company’s Chinese employees and was not approved by headquarters. The report also said that the Chinese statement from ASICS was similar in wording to that of Hugo Boss, a German brand that had issued a similar statement on Weibo earlier, reflecting that the statement was written by ASICS’ Chinese employees.

ASICS’ official microblog account is “ASICS ASICS”, and the microblog is certified as ASICS (China) Trading Co.

ASICS on March 25 in the official microblogging text said: “ASICS in the Chinese market to vigorously develop the local supply chain, from raw material procurement to production, from different regions of China, including the procurement of Xinjiang cotton. Quality raw materials are an important guarantee for producing quality products, and we will continue to purchase and support Xinjiang cotton. At the same Time, the development of Asics’ local supply chain in China is a further indication of our confidence in the Chinese business environment.

The post concluded by stating that ASICS adheres to the One China principle and defends national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

After ASICS posted a related Weibo post on the 25th, it was once on Weibo’s hot search and was also widely reported by Chinese media. Some media described ASICS as a “retrograde”, while others quoted Chinese netizens as saying that ASICS’ statement was “too handsome”. In China’s major forums and postings, a large number of posts about ASICS appeared, saying that ASICS is Japan’s national treasure running shoes, world soccer stars such as Beckham and Zinedine Zidane have worn ASICS galloping on the field, and ASICS has a longer history than Nike, and the only pair of non-Nike collection in the Nike Museum is ASICS sneakers.

Now ASICS clarifies that the microblogging in support of Xinjiang cotton is not sent by the parent company, and its expression speaks for itself. Some netizens commented, “A few days ago an up owner encouraged to buy ASICS, Li Ning, now I wonder how he should round this thing”, “the result of excessive force is just spent thousands of dollars to buy a pair of Onizuka Tiger (another brand of ASICS parent company), and then proceed to burn? Just ask you embarrassed not embarrassed?” The company’s main focus is on the “black”, “full suspicion that ASICS is a senior black”.
