China-Ukraine relations deteriorate! Ukraine freezes aircraft engine maker Madasic’s assets

The relationship between Ukraine and China has deteriorated again. Foreign media reports indicate that after nationalizing the aircraft engine manufacturer JSC Motor Sich, which is coveted by the Chinese Communist Party in early March and in which it holds a large stake, the engine vendor’s assets were frozen recently.

The Ukrainian aircraft engine maker Madasich, the country’s only aero-engine company, is coveted by the Chinese Communist Party for its key technology, and Chinese companies such as Beijing Tianjiao Aviation, which has acquired more than 56 percent of Madasich since 2016, even tried to acquire it, but was blocked by Ukraine. Beijing Tianjiao also sued Ukraine for $3.6 billion in damages in an international arbitration court. Ukraine, however, did not fear offending the Chinese Communist Party and froze Madasic’s assets and shares to prevent them from falling into the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.

The report also mentioned that Russia is very concerned about the changes in China-Ukraine relations. Analysis suggests that the failure of the Chinese acquisition of Madasic would allow China to continue to rely on Russian engine supplies, and that orders from China would increase. Moscow is equally hopeful that China and Russia will be on the same page when it comes to Ukraine.
