Georgia’s Republican governor Brian Kemp signed a Republican-led state election reform bill on the night of the 25th, amidst strong Democratic protests, that would restrict communication voting and expand the legislature’s control over elections. Jim Crow laws (segregation laws), calling on Congress to pass the election reform bill; Kemp countered that the new election law did not discriminate and said Biden and his aides had not read it properly.
The new bill is aimed at the “Georgia Code” (Georgia Code), the election, voting to make comprehensive changes. The bill was passed by the state Senate on the 8th by a vote of 29-20 and then sent to the state House of Representatives, which voted 100-75 on the 25th to pass the amendment and then immediately sent it to the state Senate to pass it by 34-20, less than two hours after Kemp officially signed it.
According to the new law, voters must show identification to apply for correspondence voting, and will set up a voter registration system to cross-check voter eligibility, the number and placement of ballot boxes will also be limited; also prohibit people to provide Food and drink to those waiting to vote, violators of the law.
In addition, the Republican-controlled legislature has greater control over election operations; the change comes after Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who is also chairman of the Board of Elections, rejected Trump‘s pressure to insist that Biden win in the state. Now, the legislature has replaced the secretary of state with this power and can remove “incompetent” county election officials.
After former President Donald Trump lost the election and accused the communications vote of fraud, the Crimson Joe State was on fire to reform the state’s election laws; the Republicans took one step forward, ignoring the objections of Democrats and voting rights groups, saying the law disenfranchised non-white voters.

State Senate Democratic Minority Leader Gloria Butler criticized the bill as full of “voter suppression tactics,” while Democratic state Rep. Rhonda Burnough said the bill was based on lies about election fraud that Republicans have been faking since last year’s election.
“This bill, like the Republican Party’s claims in many state legislatures, is a blatant attack on the Constitution and on conscience”; Biden denounced Joe State’s approach on the 26th: “This is the Jim Crow law of the 21st century, and it must be suspended, and we have a conscience and a constitutional obligation to act.”
Biden called on Congress to pass the For the People Act, an H.R. 1 bill that would reform the way voting rights and campaign finance are obtained; the House passed the bill earlier this month, but it was stuck in the Senate because of Republican opposition.
Biden also called on Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would restore the Voting Rights Act, which was overturned by the Supreme Court.
