Shinzo Abe: Japan is already at the forefront of the confrontation between China and the United States

As the Sino-US tug-of-war heats up, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will visit the United States next month for talks with President Joe Biden, and former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Saturday (27) that Japan has become the frontline of the confrontation between China and the United States, saying that in China Policy needs to realize that the Indo-Pacific region has been the frontline and psychological preparation, and on this basis to work on foreign security policy.

Shinzo Abe gave a speech at a meeting of the Niigata Branch Federation of the Liberal Democratic Party on the same day, during which he talked about the rise of China’s military power and the situation in the East and South China Seas.

Regarding Kan’s visit to the U.S., he said, “The important area of U.S. diplomatic and security strategy has shifted to the Indo-Pacific, which means the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty has become really important.”

In addition, the U.S. and Japan plan to cooperate against China in areas that affect economic security and safety, such as semiconductors, and Biden and Kan will discuss establishing stable supply chains for rare earths and medical supplies. For the global semiconductor supply shortage, the U.S. and Japan will explore cooperation between the two countries’ research institutions to strive for a procurement network that becomes diversified and does not favor specific countries.
