Land Commission warns land media not to record programs in Taiwan

Taiwan’s Land Commission reiterated Thursday that mainland media are not allowed to record programs in Taiwan, and violators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

In July, two journalists from Fujian province’s Southeast TV were found to be ineligible for permission to record a political program in Taiwan, and they left the country after having their documents revoked.

Qiu Chui-Cheng said that the Chinese media violated Taiwan’s regulations by using studios in Taiwan to record talk shows and inviting Taiwanese to discuss current affairs across the Taiwan Strait, which is inconsistent with the purpose of their permission to be stationed in Taiwan. He said that the journalists of land media in Taiwan should “come to cover the news, not to record programs”.

The Central News Agency (CNA) reported that there are still five Chinese central media and five local media with correspondents stationed in Taiwan, while CCTV, Southeast TV, Channel TV and other TV stations are in violation of the aforementioned regulations. Qiu Cui-cheng stressed that the relevant media must stop the relevant behavior, otherwise Taiwan will deal with it according to the law.
