S.C. oil prices rise to nearly $5 a gallon, new high since November 2019

After a long period of relatively stable gas prices in 2020, gas prices in Southern California have continued to rise recently, peaking at nearly $5 per gallon, FOX11 reported. This is a new high for the price of oil in Southern California since November 2019.

Gas prices have continued to rise recently, causing residents to complain. Barry Yukon, a resident of Brentwood in Contra Costa County, said, “It’s unbelievable! Gas prices are a dollar a gallon cheaper in the East and Midwest.”

Jamie Court, a representative of Consumer Watchdog, a consumer advocacy group, said this is a golden feature of California’s gas price gouging, with local drivers paying 70 cents more in gas prices than the rest of the country. In some areas of West Los Angeles, gas prices have been close to $5 per gallon.

As the Epidemic tapers off leading to more driving trips, gasoline consumption has increased accordingly. At the same Time, local refineries to reduce production, as well as from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) supply reduction, are directly led to the price of gasoline.

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price per gallon of unleaded gasoline in the Los Angeles area is $3.93, an increase of 69 cents from a year ago. In the more eastern city of Rosemead, it’s $3.85 per gallon, and further inland in the San Bernardino area an Arco station is $3.49 per gallon. Consumer Watchdog says don’t expect gas prices to come back down anytime soon into the summer.
