Another 80-year-old woman, who received the vaccine on the 2nd of this month, was found unconscious at home on the 19th and was confirmed dead after being taken to hospital.
The Hong Kong Vaccine Clinical Event Assessment Expert Committee said there was no evidence to suggest a direct relationship between the death and the vaccination. Further information is needed before a causal analysis of the cause of death can be made.
The committee also announced that with the addition of the two vaccination deaths, there have been 10 related deaths in Hong Kong so far, nine of which involved the China Kexing vaccine and one for the Fubatai vaccine, a collaboration between Germany‘s BioNTech and China’s Fosun Pharmaceutical.
In addition, a 26-year-old man lost consciousness for one hour after receiving the Kexing vaccine in the afternoon of the 24th, and woke up with symptoms such as facial paralysis, crooked mouth, swollen mouth and face, and dizziness.
Co-convenor of the expert committee for the evaluation of vaccine clinical events, Kung Fan-Yi, pointed out that so far there are nine known cases of facial palsy, all of which are males, including eight cases of Kexing vaccine and one case of Fubitai vaccine.
The vaccination cases of death and side effects have been reported one after another, causing fears among Hong Kong people.
