After the shooting Biden pushed to ban guns Cruz denounced: the crisis was used by the government

In the wake of the Colorado shooting, left-wing figures including Biden, Obama and senior Senate Democrats have come out saying that now is the Time to immediately pursue a gun ban bill, to which Senator Cruz, a Texas Republican, denounced that the government is using gun crime as an excuse to actually take away people’s legal right to bear arms.

Cruz denounced at a hearing on gun crime held by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, March 23, saying, “Every time there is a shooting, Democrats are going to play this kind of trick, under the pretext of protecting people and reducing gun crime, but in reality they are taking the right to own guns away from the law-abiding public. This is only counterproductive.”

“Guns protect women, children and families. In the United States, there are a million such self-defense cases each year. If Democrats want to take away the legal rights of these potential victims, the result will be more gun victims,” he said.

According to Cruz, “Why don’t we go after the bad guys with the guns? We should be putting them in jail and not giving them the opportunity to have guns. Democrats are only thinking about dealing with the good guys. Please stop badgering the Constitution of the United States!”

In a mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado, Monday afternoon, March 22, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, allegedly opened fire at a King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, killing 10 people, including a police officer killed in the line of duty. The suspect, Alissa, faces ten counts of first-degree murder, according to police.

The attack in Colorado was the seventh mass killing in the United States this year, according to a database compiled by The Associated Press, USA Today and Boston-based Northeastern University.

Senate Majority Leader Rep. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Tuesday that the Senate will act specifically to expand gun background checks. Schumer said, “It’s a reminder that we must face a devastating truth: relentless gun violence is destroying innocent lives.”

President Joe Biden on Tuesday called on the Senate to pass a new round of gun control measures, and he urged the House and Senate to ban “assault weapons. Biden said he wants to take immediate action to address gun violence and “doesn’t want to wait a minute, not an hour.” He also called on the Senate to pass two House bills – to close the gun sales background check loophole, including the “Charleston loophole” (Charleston loophole).

The so-called “Charleston loophole” means that if the background check is not completed within three days, the gun sale can proceed. In March of this year, the House of Representatives passed a bill to expand gun background checks. The bill expands federal background checks for all gun sales and extends the time for background check reviews from three days to at least 10 business days for background checks.

In the wake of the shooting, Democrats called for a nationwide ban on the rifle trade, while pro-gun Republicans said the move would only limit law-abiding citizens and reduce their ability to protect themselves, while allowing criminals to get away with more.
