On November 18, Reuters reported that the Polish government had indicted a former Polish secret service agent and a Chinese telecommunications company employee on charges of espionage for allegedly spying for China.
A spokesman for Poland’s Coordinating Minister of Special Services said in a statement that the prosecution had recently filed an indictment with the Warsaw District Court against Piotr Durbajlo and a Chinese suspect named Weijing Wang, who are accused of working together to spy against Poland’s national interests.
The Wall Street Journal previously cited Polish officials as saying that Wang Weijing, the head of Chinese telecommunications company Huawei in Poland, and Dubagiello, a former member of Poland’s Internal Security Agency, were arrested last year on suspicion of espionage activities to gather intelligence for China. Huawei later announced that Wang had been fired and refused to admit that the charges against him were related to Huawei.
Wang’s lawyer told Reuters on Wednesday that his client had not yet seen all the evidence of the charges and that the evidence did not provide grounds for prosecution. Huawei declined to comment on the incident.
