Biden criticizes Putin for meddling in U.S. election Russia makes tough moves

The Russian government today recalled its ambassador to the United States to Moscow to discuss future relations between Russia and the United States after President Joe Biden said Russian President Vladimir Putin would “pay the price” for interfering in the U.S. election.

Reuters reports that Putin has long been accused of ordering actions to try to sway the U.S. election, a view supported by a recent U.S. intelligence report. Biden later made those comments.

Russia, for its part, called the allegations unfounded.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it had recalled its ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, to Moscow to discuss the future of Russian-American relations.

The statement also noted that the action was aimed at ensuring that bilateral relations do not deteriorate irrevocably.

In an interview with ABC News, Biden also said on 17 May that he agreed that Putin was an “executioner” and ruthless toward his political opponents. Russia is furious at Biden’s criticism of Putin as an executioner.
