The National Pulse reported Friday that the fence around the perimeter of the U.S. Capitol will be lifted by the end of the week, with Acting U.S. House Sergeant at Arms Timothy P. Blodgett (D-CA) acknowledging that “there is no known credible threat to the Capitol.”
In an email to members and staff, Blodgett said that by Monday, Independence Reach and Constitution Avenue will be open to traffic. The inner perimeter wall will remain around the Capitol Plaza, and the Capitol’s architects will have to make security repairs in the meantime.
Blodgett said the National Guard “will continue to be stationed within the reduced boundaries to support our enhanced security standards.” He added that the Capitol Police will “continue to monitor the threat posture and will reassess the plan if there are any changes.”
