Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, was the scene of a series of shootings on Tuesday (16), the gunman broke into three massage parlors and killed eight people, six of whom were of Asian descent, and police arrested a male suspect. The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Wednesday (17) that four of the victims in the case were of Korean descent, and the Consulate General in Atlanta has sent someone to the scene to understand the situation and provide consular assistance.
The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. East Coast Time Tuesday when gunshots were heard at Young’s Asian Massage Parlor in Acworth, 50 kilometers north of Atlanta, where police officers arrived to find the remains of two bodies and took the three injured to the hospital, two of whom died of their wounds. The identities of the dead were not released, but are known to be two Asian women, a white woman and a white man, and a Hispanic man was hospitalized.
About an hour later, a robbery occurred at the Gold Massage Spa in Buckhead, Atlanta’s business district, leaving three Asian women shot and killed at the scene; a shooting also broke out at the Aromatherapy Spa a block away, where an Asian woman was shot and killed.
Debra and Welch, who live nearby, were disturbed by the shooting in the red light district, and Welch said it would be even more disturbing if the incident was anti-Asian related. Yang’s Asian massage store next door to the owner of the fashion store, said the incident heard a sound to be clapping next door, then a woman began to scream, after the police saw the dead and wounded carried out of the scene, a group of people waiting for news issued a painful wail, three people fell to sit on the sidewalk, two of them hugged together, while crying and shaking.
Police reviewed CCTV footage and found that Robert Aaron Long, a 21-year-old man who lives in Woodstock, Cherokee County, showed up at the first crime scene 10 minutes before the incident, and he later drove to other crime scenes. Police in Crisp County, 240 miles south of Atlanta, learned at 8 p.m. that Aaron Long had driven a black car into the territory and were able to stop and arrest him after a chase on the interstate.
The U.S. Department of State says it is praying for the victims in the case and for the victims of the horrific violence. The U.S. Department of State says it’s not a good idea to have the U.S. Department of State in the U.S., but it is.
The FBI spokesman Rosen said the FBI will help Cherokee County and Atlanta police investigate the incident, Atlanta police said Aaron Long confessed that the motive for the murder is not related to racism, but for the sex industry, after the incident, additional police officers patrolled the area and patrol massage parlors.
The New York City Police Department’s counter-terrorism unit said that although there was no evidence of an attack on a massage parlor in the city, it was prudent to deploy more police officers in the Asian community. A local police spokesman said that Aaron Long may target the sex industry.
