German two state parliamentary elections Exit poll: Merkel’s party lost big

Exit polls from the German states of Baden-Wuerttemberg and Rhein-Pfalz today show Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats losing big, as voters are unhappy with the involvement of CDU MPs in a mask procurement scandal and the government’s mishandling of the Epidemic.

Exit polls by ARD and ZDF show that Angela Merkel’s right-of-center CDU is expected to deliver its worst performance ever in the Baden-Wuerttemberg parliamentary election, with a possible 23 percent of the vote.

The Greens, on the other hand, are expected to receive more than 31 percent of the vote and will remain the largest party, as was the case in Baden-Württemberg’s last parliamentary election in 2016.

In the Rhineland-Palatinate parliamentary elections, the CDP will be the second largest party with 25% to 26% of the vote, but less than the nearly 32% it received in the last elections.

The left-of-center Social Democratic Party (SPD) will perform slightly worse than in the previous election, but it is still expected to win 33% to 34% of the vote and remain the largest party.
