Chinese Communist Party exerts pressure on RTHK and Myanmar Experts: Democracies please don’t appease!

The China Asia Pacific Elite Exchange Association (CAPEA) recently held a seminar on “The two sessions of the Communist Party of China and the recent development of cross-strait relations” and released a related poll. Whether U.S. President Joe Biden will continue his policy of confronting the Chinese Communist Party after he takes office has drawn the attention of all sectors. Cross-Strait Policy Association researcher Zhang Yushao said that the Chinese Communist Party has been testing the attitude of Biden and democratic countries on the Hong Kong issue, unlike the tactics used on Myanmar and Taiwan. He called on democratic countries not to adopt appeasement tactics against the CCP, and to have strategic determination and strategic patience against the Communist Party.

Poll: “Patriots ruling Hong Kong” up to 60% of Taiwanese people think it undermines “one country, two systems” in Hong Kong

The China Asia Pacific Elite Exchange Association recently released a poll on “the two sessions of the Chinese Communist Party and the recent development of cross-strait relations”, which shows that the Chinese Communist Party intends to change Hong Kong’s electoral system in the name of “patriots ruling Hong Kong”, and as many as 61.3% of the public believe that this move undermines Hong Kong’s “one country, two systems”. “One country, two systems”.

Zhang Yushao said in an interview that the Chinese Communist Party has abandoned all its political commitments after tearing up the agreement with the British Basic Law, and that it is irrevocable, and that it is not difficult to understand what the Chinese Communist Party did to Tibet and now to the Uighurs.

Zhang Yushao said that many people in Hong Kong were basically Jiang Zemin’s people, and Zeng Qinghong was one of the top leaders in charge of Hong Kong at that Time. Xi Jinping sees Hong Kong as his pocket, and his approach is to leave the island untouched. The Chinese Communist Party is ready to copy the Tibetan model and immigrate the elites from mainland China to Hong Kong, also to cleanse the Jiang Family‘s people.

He said that now Hong Kong is at best the outer port of Shenzhen and has lost its unique economic status as the “Four Little Dragons of Asia” or the “Pearl of the Orient”. The U.S. basically also sees Hong Kong as part of the Chinese Communist Party and no longer gives Hong Kong the unique economic and trade status it used to have. He believes that “the most the West can do is to find ways to relax immigration standards so that Hong Kong people can leave the place.”

In response to the Chinese Communist Party’s proposal to change Hong Kong’s electoral system in the name of “patriots ruling Hong Kong,” Zhang Yushao analyzed public opinion polls and pointed out that the implication of “patriots ruling Hong Kong” is that there are people who are not “patriotic. This is the traditional class struggle, because if there are “people”, there are “enemies”, which is the traditional dichotomy of the Chinese Communist Party. The so-called “patriots” refer to the CCP’s fellow travelers, and such a statement is just linked to the relevant issues in Myanmar.

Zhang Yushao said that Myanmar is very important to the Chinese Communist Party, which wants to open up the Malacca Strait channel and the Kyaukpyu port (Myanmar) oil pipeline, so that the mainland’s “Crude Oil lifeline” (Malacca Strait) in wartime by the enemy’s blockade pressure will be greatly reduced. In addition, Myanmar has the world’s third largest export of rare earths, all of which are core interests of the Chinese Communist Party. So the CCP does not want Aung San Suu Kyi to be pro-Western in principle; it wants to support a Burmese military junta that is absolutely dependent on the CCP economically and militarily, just as North Korea is.

“The biggest lie the Burmese junta has told is that Aung San Suu Kyi is pro-communist,” Zhang Yushao said, adding that they can even tell such lies. In particular, the Burmese junta’s mode of suppressing student youths, cutting off foreign aid, cutting off electricity, cutting off the Internet, and deploying peripheral forces, are the same as how the Hong Kong police dealt with Hong Kong youths in the anti-SEC campaign. They also combined with the latest Chinese Communist Party technology practices, but the Burmese military government forces have gotten their way, it is difficult to say, because it involves the political tug-of-war between major powers.

“The Hong Kong issue is still different from the Burma and Taiwan issues.” He analyzed that international or democratic forces focus on the Hong Kong issue will be described by the Chinese Communist Party as interference in internal affairs, but the world’s democratic countries will still have pressure on the Burmese military government, while Taiwan in the world is involved in more factors, including Taiwan’s geopolitics, the value of democratic politics, as well as in the global supply chain in a more pivotal position, etc., Taiwan issue than Hong Kong, Burma’s more complex.

The Chinese Communist Party tests the bottom line of the United States and Western democracies

He said the Chinese Communist Party used the Hong Kong model to test the bottom line of the U.S. and Western democracies on the one hand, and also to assess what the attitudes of neighboring countries will be if they take action in the future or in the Taiwan Strait. “So actually President Joe Biden is under a lot of pressure right now, and that would explain why recently the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and the State Department have been taking an increasingly tough stance and then an increasingly clear attitude, because it’s impossible to release the wrong message for the Chinese Communist Party to judge that the U.S. might not be able to help.”

The Chinese Communist Party encroached on Hong Kong after the transfer of sovereignty in 1997. Zhang Yushao reminded that the CCP’s actions on the East China Sea, Taiwan Sea and South China Sea are feared to be Xi Jinping’s war brink strategy to export crises to divert internal conflicts. If people are not alert to adopt appeasement strategies against the CCP, this idea is similar to the Sudetenland in 1938, Hitler declared that this was his last territorial claim, but Hitler had the last one again every time, “so I think this is a domino effect problem.”

“Will the domino effect happen?” Zhang Yushao reminded that the Chinese Communist Party of Hong Kong is a challenge to the determination of democratic countries, but also may be on like Hong Kong into Taiwan, the face of the Chinese Communist Party’s long-term war of public opinion, the world against the Communist Party basically need to have strategic determination and strategic patience.

“Recently the Chinese Communist Party military aircraft around Taiwan is too frequent.” He said the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 addresses many aspects of the Chinese Communist Party, with the new Pacific Deterrence Initiative drawing attention. The recent political statements made by the Biden Administration, or the increase in the defense budget, are basically a continuation of former President Trump‘s Indo-Pacific strategy. As to whether Biden supports Taiwan, “we can observe how much of the Biden administration’s Pacific Deterrence Initiative (PDI) has been implemented this year. That’s one indicator to watch.”

In addition, the poll showed that on the issue of mainland China’s recent ban on the import of Taiwan pineapples, 64.2% of the public believe the problem lies with the Chinese Communist Party. And in the section of 2019 coronavirus (new coronavirus) outbreak and vaccine, 61.6% opposed to the opening of mainland China’s vaccine to Taiwan. In terms of willingness to receive vaccines from mainland China, 76.1% are unwilling.

Zhang Yushao said that the current political atmosphere of “preferring the left to the right” permeates the CCP, which will make the party for the sensitive issues momentarily feel confused, the State Council Taiwan Office on the eve of the two sessions, the implementation of economic sanctions against Taiwan pineapple is the basic interpretation, but too radical action is afraid that the central government into the overturned water, difficult to turn around the dilemma.
