March 8, AMD’s third-generation Threadripper PRO processor has officially gone on sale. The series has three models, including 3945WX, 3955WX, 3975X, 3995WX, respectively, using 12-core, 16-core, 32-core, 64-core design, in addition to the lowest specification 3945WX price was not announced, the other three models are priced at $ 8379, $ 20079, $ 40079, of which 3995WX with Gigabyte WRX80-SU8-IPMI workstation motherboard set priced at 64,999 yuan.
All four processors use TSMC‘s 7nm process and support up to 128 PCIE4.0 channels and 8 channels of memory. The top-of-the-line 3995WX has nine CCD chips with a maximum frequency of 4.2GHz, 32MB of L2 cache, and 256MB of L2 cache.
From the specs, Threadripper Threadripper PRO performs extremely well and is priced more than 25% higher than Threadripper with the same number of cores. Interestingly, the Threadripper Threadripper PRO is not available in a 24-core version, and the Threadripper is not available in a 16-core version.
The Threadripper series is geared towards workstations, not the average consumer, so the overall configuration is very high and also supports AMD PRO security technologies, including AMD Secure Processor and AMD Memory Guard, to ensure data security.
Although still user-oriented, the Threadripper Threadripper PRO is basically just one short of dual-way support compared to the server-oriented Skylar 7002 series. Note that the series must be used with TRX80 motherboards, and only three are currently available: ASUS Pro WS WRX80E-SAGE SE WiFi, Gigabyte WRX80-SU8-IPMI, and Supermicro M12SWA-TF.
The survey report released by Steam shows that AMD processor users are increasing in number and are gradually eating into Intel‘s market. Workstation processors, AMD gradually dominate, only in the server processor, Intel advantage is still relatively large. Recently, Intel’s many processors have been sold at reduced prices, seemingly wanting to fight a price war with AMD to maintain their market position.
AMD and Intel’s competition will promote the further decline in processor prices, it is a pity that the current price of graphics cards is still high, resulting in the cost of buying an assembled computer rose.
