Roberto Minuta, the leader of Oath Keepers in Newburgh, N.Y., became the subject of viral tweets from the left because he was seen with Roger Stone, a longtime political confidant of President Trump, on the day of the Capitol protests, U.S. media gateway experts reported Tuesday, with the left saying Minuta Nuta was Stone’s bodyguard.
The FBI said Monday that two men wanted in the Capitol riots were arrested Saturday, including Minuta, a Newburgh tattoo parlor veteran who the FBI said was 36 years old from Hackettstown, N.J., and had been “outfitted with military-style clothing and equipment, including clothing with Oath Keeper-related insignia.”
Minuta is charged with obstruction of Congress and trespassing. According to charging documents obtained by ABC News, “Minuta and others affiliated with the Oath Keepers broke onto the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, where Minuta aggressively verbally abused and taunted Capitol Police officers and representatives inside the Capitol who were charged with protecting the Capitol.”
Minuta’s wife told ABC News that her husband was at the Capitol but never went inside, just “another patriot outside the Capitol …… standing up for freedom.” Minuta’s attorney argued that Minuta would not abandon his children and community.
In an effort to hold Minuta without bail until his trial, the FBI said Minuta is still running the tattoo parlor despite the lockdown and “there is evidence that this man has no respect for the law. Magistrate Judge Andrew Krause instead released Minuta on bail, with Judge Krause saying, “Mr. Minuta did not engage in any violent behavior on Jan. 6. I think it would be an overstatement to say that because Mr. Minuta was wearing a particular outfit that he would have engaged in a particular act of violence.”
In a statement to ABC News, Roger Stone said he did not know Minuta, “nor did he know Minuta’s name until media reports alleged that he was involved in illegal activities at the Capitol.”” If he was indeed one of the people who volunteered to provide security during my visit to Washington, D.C., I was unaware of it. “
At least five people associated with the Oath Keepers were arrested during the Jan. 6 protest, three of whom were charged with conspiracy.
