Hackers hacked into Verkada’s system and obtained images of tesla‘s internal surveillance.
Bloomberg information reported today (10), the hacker group claimed that they hacked into the security camera database of enterprise surveillance system start-up company Verkada; they could see the instant images of 150,000 cameras installed in Verkada customers, such as electric car manufacturer Tesla (Tesla), gynecological clinics, psychiatric hospitals, police stations, prisons, schools and other internal conditions, all viewed by hackers.
Some surveillance cameras, including hospitals, also use face recognition technology to identify and classify people in the images, the hacker group said. They also said they had access to the entire surveillance video archive of all Verkada’s customers.
Bloomberg Information pointed out that reporters saw surveillance images of Tesla’s Shanghai plant, with several employees working on the assembly line. The hacker group told Bloomberg that they could see the footage captured by a total of 222 surveillance cameras at Tesla’s factory and warehouse.
Verkada is a Silicon Valley start-up specializing in enterprise security surveillance systems, with Sequoia Capital as one of its major investors.
Bloomberg said that the international hackers collectively and deliberately hacked into Verkada surveillance system, is to show the world that video surveillance is ubiquitous, and how easy it is for such a system to be hacked.
