A majority of New Yorkers would not vote for Governor Cuomo if he were to run for re-election now, according to a new joint poll released Tuesday (2) by Emerson College, PIX11-TV and NewsNation following revelations of a possible cover-up of nursing Home resident death data and three sexual harassment allegations.

The Emmerson Institute polled 700 New Yorkers from March 1-2. The results showed that 64 percent of respondents said they would not vote for Cuomo in 2022; New York is a Democratic stronghold, and looking at Democratic voters alone, Cuomo’s situation is not good either, with only 52 percent saying he should be re-elected, while 48 percent of respondents opposed Cuomo and thought it was Time for a new governor to lead New York; notably, more than 90 percent of respondents were aware of Cuomo’s sanitarium and sexual harassment scandals .

As the number of sexual harassment allegations against Cuomo grows, only 18 percent of poll respondents said they do not believe these Cuomo-caused sexual harassment allegations at all, while the rest mostly believe the allegations or are unsure of half-truths. In response to the sexual harassment allegations that continue to come to light, Cuomo has asked New Yorkers on the 3rd to wait for the investigation report released by State Attorney General Jen Lehigh.

For the governor’s involvement in these sexual harassment scandals, New Yorkers have different views on whether he should resign: 37% insist he should resign, 34% say he should not resign, and 29% are unsure or have no opinion.

Regarding the state’s cover-up of nursing home resident death data, 45 percent of respondents said Cuomo should resign, 36 percent said he should not resign, and 18 percent said they were unsure or had no opinion.

Compared to last year’s high polling, the scandalous controversy now has New Yorkers worried about whether he is still up to the job of governor. Pollsters asked respondents whether the negative scandals have affected Cuomo’s ability to lead, with 39 percent saying they have had a serious impact, 31 percent saying they would have no impact, 14 percent saying he was never a good leader and just 16 percent saying they were unsure.

Cuomo has indicated on Wednesday that he will not resign, but as things stand, Cuomo may not have enough support to be re-elected for a fourth term.
