“Unconstitutional Power Grab” Pence Denounces Democrats’ Election Reform Bill H.R. 1

Former Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday (March 3) published an article titled “Election Integrity is a National Imperative” and called the Democratic push for H.R. 1 “an unconstitutional power grab.

On Tuesday (March 2), federal House Democrats pushed the election reform bill, H.R. 1, to the House floor for discussion and a vote, sparking discontent among Republicans.

The most controversial provisions of H.R. 1 include allowing nationwide mass mail-in voting, voter registration for 16- and 17-year-olds, permanently allowing early voting, minimum verification of online registration, legalizing ballot collection and voting rights for felons after they have served their sentences.

In an article published Wednesday in The Daily Signal, a conservative political media outlet, former Vice President Mike Pence said, “After an election with major voting irregularities and numerous officials who disregarded state election laws, I share the concerns of millions of Americans about the integrity of the 2020 election. election integrity in 2020.”

“That is why, in my role as moderator of the joint session of Congress that certified the Electoral College vote results, I am committed to ensuring that all objections properly raised under the Electoral College vote counting Act (ECRA) receive a full hearing before Congress and the American people. “

“The Democrats are trying to nationalize elections.”

“Under the Constitution, elections are administered at the state level. Each state must appoint the electors for the presidential (election) in ‘such manner as its legislature may direct.'” Pence said.

He also said many of the most troubling voting irregularities occur in the states, including not going to enforce laws enacted by state legislatures and instead enforcing rules ordered by governors, secretaries of state and courts that make drastic changes to election laws.

Pence denounced the Democratic push for H.R. 1 as a “nationalization” of elections.

“While lawmakers in many states have embarked on election reform to restore public confidence in state elections, it is unfortunate that congressional Democrats have chosen to set aside these legitimate concerns and reforms and pursue a blatant attempt to nationalize elections in blatant disregard of the U.S. Constitution,” Pence said. Pence said.

“H.R. 1 increases the opportunity for election fraud.”

Pence added that Congress will vote this week on H.R. 1, a massive 800-page election reform bill, “which (H.R. 1) would increase opportunities for election fraud, trample on the First Amendment, further erode confidence in our elections, and dilute the votes of legally eligible voters forever.”

Pence said H.R. 1 would eliminate those protections against election fraud and prevent states from implementing new and necessary reforms; H.R. 1 authorizes the most problematic and abusive election rules nationwide, while prohibiting common-sense measures to detect, deter and prosecute election fraud.

He also said H.R. 1 would force states to adopt universal mail-in ballots, early voting, same-day voter registration, and online voter registration to ensure “duplicate registration” and to ensure that millions of “illegal aliens” register to vote quickly.

Pence also said H.R. 1 requires states to count every mail-in ballot within 10 days of Election Day; states must also allow “ballot harvesting,” where paid political operatives collect absentee ballots from places such as nursing homes, which can put America’s most vulnerable voters under duress and increase their chances of voting. At the same Time, state and local election officials would be stripped of their ability to maintain the accuracy of voter lists, prohibited from verifying voter eligibility, and prohibited from using voter IDs everywhere.

“Congressional districts would be redrawn by unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats. Illegal immigrants and law-abiding U.S. citizens would be given equal representation in Congress. Felons will be able to vote as soon as they are released from prison.” Referring to the consequences that H.R. 1 would bring, Pence said.

“The goal of H.R. 1 is to give the left an unconstitutional advantage.”

“We must do everything we can to change that and make sure that the American people, no matter which party they lean toward, have confidence in the fairness and security of the electoral process.” Pence said.

“Not only do leftists want to make you powerless at the ballot box, they want to silence and censor anyone who dares to criticize their unconstitutional power grab.”

“Every proposed change in H.R. 1 serves one goal and one goal only: to give the left a permanent, unfair and unconstitutional advantage in our political system.

“H.R. 1 would turn a blind eye to very real problems at the state level, exacerbate existing vulnerabilities, and further undermine the American people’s faith in the ‘one person, one vote’ principle.” Pence said.

Pence added, “Election reform is a national imperative, but under our Constitution, election reform must take place at the state level. Our founders limited the role of Congress in conducting elections for good reason. They wanted elections to be administered by those closest to the people, free from undue influence of the national government.

“H.R. 1 is an unconstitutional, reckless and anti-democratic bill that would erode these basic principles (of free and fair elections) and could permanently damage our Republic.

“To restore public confidence in elections, our leaders should uphold the Constitution, reject congressional Democrats’ plans to nationalize elections, and embark on serious state-based reforms to protect the voting integrity of every American.

“The American people expect us to ensure that every eligible citizen can vote and that their votes are not stolen or diluted through error, mistake or outright fraud.

“Every citizen should have the freedom to support, oppose, criticize or promote the candidates and causes they believe in. Most importantly, the American people must have the utmost confidence that every voice counts and every vote must count, or democracy cannot survive.”
