The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday (March 1) formally dismissed two lawsuits filed by Sidney Powell challenging the outcome of last year’s Nov. 3 election.
The Supreme Court did not comment Monday on the dismissal of the lawsuits. One lawsuit was filed against Wisconsin and the other against Arizona.
The court said, “The petitions for writs of mandamus (petitions) are dismissed.”
One of Powell’s petitions for writ of mandamus said, “It is unusual to petition this court directly for a writ of extraordinary mandamus, but it is well founded. Although the practice is rare, the Supreme Court should grant it when a matter of public importance is involved or when the nature of the issue is particularly appropriate for such action by this Court.”
On Monday (March 1), Powell had not yet commented on the Supreme Court’s decision on her social media Telegram page.
A day before President Joe Biden‘s inauguration on Jan. 20, Powell withdrew a separate lawsuit filed in the Supreme Court against Georgia’s election results.
A few weeks earlier, Powell announced that she had launched a super PAC dedicated to free speech, constitutional rights and “the sacred right to free and fair elections.”
Powell said in late January that she created Restore the Republic Super PAC, an independent, purely expenditure-based political action committee that can accept unlimited contributions and may participate in political initiatives without spending restrictions, provided it does not run for office or coordinate directly with candidates.
She said, “The American people have a right to have a voice to expose and reject the selfish interests of political parties, the control of tech giants, and the lies of fake news.”
Meanwhile, Twitter (Twitter) suspended the accounts of some conservatives, including Powell, after the Capitol was breached on Jan. 6. Powell said in a statement at the Time that Twitter had “no warning” about the removal of her account. She added, “This is shocking.”
In an email in January, she said, “Twitter and the act of shutting down the accounts of those traveling to Washington, DC, is the purest form of fascism …… This is a communist coup and has been planned for a long time.”
Powell has successfully defended retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn. Trump‘s (R-Texas) legal team introduced Powell last November, though the team later distanced itself from her, saying she was not working for them.
Separately, Dominion Voting Systems filed a $1.3 billion lawsuit against Powell and similar lawsuits against Rudy Giuliani and Mike Lindell. In a statement last month, Powell’s attorney, Lin Wood, suggested that Powell had done nothing wrong. Lin Wood said, “Sydney and I will not be deterred.” He added that he and Powell “will not quietly disappear into the night.”
