Well worth it! Chinese-American Volunteers at the Recall Newsom Visa Collection Campaign

Over the weekend of February 19-22, some Chinese-American volunteers continued to set up signature collection booths in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties as California’s policies have become increasingly left-leaning, affecting everything from Education on down to everyday Life aspects. People who came to sign the petition included people of different ethnicities, parties and political views, and now basically no explanation is needed, people just come to sign the petition, and some sign it and bring a few forms to their friends. Mike Netter, the organizer of the “Recall Newsom” campaign, said he hopes more people will join the great movement in the last three weeks and express everyone’s wishes. The Recall Governor Newsom campaign has collected more than 1.7 million signatures, and the Chinese-American volunteers say, “Let’s all work together!”

Why Recall Governor Newsom?

Volunteer Teresa said she loves California, but such a great place is being made to look like this by the left. Because of California’s push for a radical sex education curriculum in schools, she became concerned about school district and city decisions and became involved and vocal on behalf of her children; then came her involvement in Referendum Bill 16 against discrimination; and now the recall of Governor Newsom.

Volunteer Jeff (Jeff) has been volunteering since the first recall of Newsom in 2019, seeing where people are needed to help. He said, “Newsom messed up San Francisco when he was mayor, the security situation was bad; you couldn’t park on the street, and someone could go smash a car window and steal something just as you were leaving. California’s Democrats brokered three bills, 47th, 57th and AB 109, which released 60,000 or so criminals.”

Angela, a volunteer, said, “People joined the recall of Newsom for various reasons, such as cutting the police force. I met a drunk guy on the freeway at night who hit my car across three lanes, called the police and waited over 20 minutes for the police to come, and they’re still cutting the police! Also, the policy of favoring tenants last year, tenants only have to pay 25% of the rent from last year to March this year, that the owners also have mortgage repayment and living problems ah.”

Resident Lee said the leftists have been doing some odd things over the years, fooling around! For example, stealing anything under $950 won’t get you caught, isn’t that encouraging people to commit crimes? Also, changing the law to release criminals who should be incarcerated while cutting police funding and staffing. Also, some schools in San Francisco now have changed their restroom signs, the women’s sign is still there, but you can’t see the men’s room, which has become transgender. So if a guy claims to be female and has to go into the women’s restroom, what do the girls do? “We’ve lived in California for a long Time, but there’s really no way to live in California anymore at this rate.” He said.

“Now Biden is opening the borders and letting in the first 25,000 people who are applying for asylum, and eventually they’re going to let in 11 million illegal immigrants, when the Trump administration was asking to complete their applications and wait outside the country first. Then they come in and employment, housing, welfare and safety are all issues and Newsom is biased towards illegal immigrants. They are spending taxpayer money frivolously and using the positions to make money for themselves, so why should we pay taxes? Someone is bound to start a boycott movement. So why does the left do so many things that are not good for the American people? According to Lee, “They have a general agenda of socialism and communism, high taxes, high welfare, and using the news media to control public opinion, so that down the road people become lazy and do or don’t do the same thing.”

Volunteer Xiaofeng said she saw the power of Chinese-Americans starting from donating masks and other supplies to opposing Referendum 16 to removing Governor Newsom. “Actually, as long as someone leads the way, there will be a lot of support and people willing to come out and volunteer. I came out because I wanted to be able to afford my own children, (and later I can say) when we used to work for you.”

Be professional

Teresa said, “The government is very strict about the signatures. If you write your name outside the rectangle, or if you write your address with a shortened city name, or if you write the wrong county name, the signature may be rejected. Some volunteers may not pay attention to this and only find out that the signature is not qualified after the visitor has left, and that is really a pity. We will have someone check it before we send it out, and if we find that the signature doesn’t pass, we will send a letter asking the resident to re-sign, but it also takes time to mail it.” Teresa has done the checking herself, collecting signatures outside during the day and getting hundreds of signature forms delivered at night, checking and signing each one one, “Some signed for the wrong county and had to cross them out because they couldn’t be verified by sending them to the county.”

Homemade signature tip board: signatures need to be written in blue and black ink pen with name, address and signature; written in a grid and city names should not be abbreviated.

Mr. Lee said: “They don’t even check people’s identity (ID) during the general election, but now they are checking it, this is a difference in treatment!” Teresa said, “The collection points are not going to ask people to show their IDs, after they are turned in, the counties will go and check the voter database.”

Teresa said she started out just taking forms and handing them to people, but later became more and more formal and professional, buying her own full set of supplies such as coolers, flags, signs, tables and chairs, and signing pens. She also added homemade red arrows to the yellow Strike Newsom sign that stood out, “We’re in the store area, and this sign and arrow at the street intersection leads people to our booth. We usually start by asking, are you here to sign the recall of Newsom? Are you a qualified voter? What county do you live in (the county of voter registration)? Then people will be reminded to sign in the long square with the full name of the city, but try not to disturb them while signing. It’s people’s own will to sign, and if people come and ask, we can explain; but if they’re not interested, they can’t be bothered.”

Their group’s booth was very clean and tidy, with the forms for each county clipped to different writing boards. Teresa reformatted and printed out the recall governor Newsom’s online signature requirements and the reasons for the recall, then plasticized them and put them on the table, which was easy to clean, and had disinfectant dry cleaning fluid for people, some of whom cared more about these details. Teresa said she hadn’t studied sales, but thinking about it differently would tell her how to make people like coming to the booth. She jokingly said, “All have experience, can go to professional stall!”

There is hard work and reward

Volunteer Xiaofeng said, “It was hard when we first started last June, there were few volunteers and people coming to sign the petition, it was especially hot in the summer, and we had to build our own shelters, tables and chairs, etc. And we usually came out for a whole day, sometimes we couldn’t take care of things at Home.”

Lori (Lori) last year has been doing against the 16th referendum case, driving around, now is to do the recall of Newsom volunteers, “need to give a lot of time, but also more hard, such as to the ground to insert signs, sometimes the ground hard very difficult to insert. There are also businesses that don’t want us around, or customers object and tell us to leave.” They have also encountered people with bad attitudes, but most of them have expressed support, and last week they received more than 100 signatures in one day.

Teresa said the volunteers purchased all of the banners, signs, tables, chairs and forms, including various flags, but it was well worth the effort. “They were at another booth on Saturday, and it was so windy that it blew the shed and tables and chairs ‘forward’, but there were so many people coming to sign that they were too busy to move back.”

Xiaofeng said her children were very supportive of her. When opposing Referendum 16, at first the child thought minorities should be taken care of because they were more disadvantaged, “but I asked: why are they living in bad conditions, why are they on welfare, why are they less educated, why are they not working hard on their own? The child eventually understood that it was because he or she took the time to put in more effort to get good grades, not because of who took care of them, and that everyone should work hard with equal opportunities.” Resident Mr. Tsai said that children are brainwashed by leftist education at school and Parents very much need to pay attention to their children and be anti-brainwashing.
