Breitbart News reported on Saturday that Joe Biden issued a statement Friday urging Congress to “quickly pass” the Equality Act, which would eliminate legal recognition of men and women and cater to a new gender ideology that defines the protection of the unborn as “pregnancy” discrimination.
The bill was introduced Thursday in the House of Representatives by Rep. David Cicilline (D-Calif.) and the Congressional Equality Caucus, which is expected to vote on the Equality Act next week.
Ryan Anderson (R-WI), president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC), said in a statement, “”The so-called Equality Act is a legislative misstep that turns equality upside down and, instead of protecting vulnerable minorities from unjust discrimination, is persecuting people who do not embrace the new gender ideology.”
Anderson emphasized, “If this bill becomes law, men who identify themselves as women will be able to spend the night in battered women’s shelters, strip in women’s locker rooms, and compete in women’s sports. Religious schools, adoption agencies, and other charitable institutions, would face federal sanctions for closure, and any refusal to support or provide abortions would now be considered ‘pregnancy’ discrimination. Terry Schilling, executive director of the American Principles Project (App), warned in a statement that “every member of Congress should recognize that a yes vote “is a vote against women, especially against female athletes, and against Americans of faith.
Any attempt by medical professionals to encourage children to identify with their birth gender would be considered illegal. The long-term result of this, combined with aggressive state regulations, is quite frightening: Parents with children suffering from gender dysphoria will be forced to provide them with puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and eventually gender change to avoid violating the law.
The radical feminist group WoLF has also recognized the Equality Act as Biden’s “war on women,” calling on members of the House to demand a no vote on a bill to end space and housing for women.
Mary Hasson, a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, a conservative Washington, D.C., think tank, wrote about the far-reaching impact of the passage of the Equality Act. She says the bill would extend the “federal octopus” into “virtually every aspect of American Life, imposing ‘gender identity’ requirements that effectively stifle women’s gender-based rights, jeopardize parental rights and silence religious believers in the public square.
Hassan warned that “the Equality Act is nothing short of a Pandora’s box that, when opened, will have irreparably devastating consequences. “
