A series of policies implemented by Biden since his inauguration as president of the United States has raised concerns among congressional Republicans. Some Republican lawmakers believe that Biden does not have a clear understanding of the Chinese Communist threat and is not tough enough on the Chinese Communist Party. The Florida Republican congressman urged President Biden to ignore the Chinese Communist Party leader’s flimflam and not to forget that the Chinese Communist Party remains the most dangerous geopolitical and economic enemy of the United States.
In his first foreign policy address, Biden agreed that the Chinese Communist Party is America’s toughest competitor, but did not rule out working with Beijing when it is in America’s interest to do so. on Feb. 16, Biden said he talked about human rights during a two-hour call with Xi Jinping last week during a CNN-sponsored town hall television program. He said he and Xi mentioned China’s actions in Hong Kong and Xinjiang, as well as the Taiwan issue. But Biden followed up by saying, “Culturally, every country has different norms that they expect their leaders to abide by.”
The remarks raised questions from Republicans. In an interview Wednesday on the Fox News program “Mornings with Maria,” former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, “The kind of discourse that says this is just a different set of norms is the Chinese (Communist Party) propaganda line. They [the CCP] want you to think it’s just a quiet country with a system that might be a little bit different.”
“The truth of the matter is that they (the Chinese Communist Party) are trying to destroy an entire nation.” Pompeo said.
Writing in The Hill, Florida Republican Rep. Carlos Gimenez gave Biden advice and warnings about the Chinese Communist threat.
Chinese Communist Party Snubs Aim to Soften U.S. Stance on China
Jimenez begins by citing his own experience as Miami-Dade County commissioner to illustrate that the Chinese Communist Party’s behavior cannot be trusted. He writes, “I had the opportunity to see firsthand the Chinese Communist Party’s attempts to take control of our critical infrastructure and assets. This experience led me to give President Biden a piece of advice: Please do not pay attention to the Chinese Communist Party leaders. Those snubs are meant to lead us to soften our stance on the CCP, and President Biden should work to strengthen a tough foreign policy toward China, including in all non-military areas.”
He said that beyond those propaganda carried out by the CCP, it must not be forgotten that the CCP remains the most dangerous enemy the United States faces in the geopolitical and economic spheres. The Chinese Communist Party will treat the new Biden Administration in a conciliatory tone and will push the United States to abandon its current toughest diplomatic strategy toward China.
“The Chinese Communist Party wants the United States to recognize a new global economic system that favors the strategic goals of the Chinese Communist Party, but one that is built at the expense of the United States and its key partners and allies. Most importantly, the CCP wants us to believe their lie that the CCP is a good and reliable partner in the world and that it is actually a good thing that the CCP has a leadership position internationally.” He said.
The CCP is doing whatever it can to undermine the free market rules of the world economy
Jimenez said in the article that it is clear from the deceptive propaganda emanating from Communist Party circles in Beijing that the CCP is using various economic tactics to undermine U.S. leadership internationally, undermining the world’s economic free market rules and trying to re-establish a world order around the Communist state. This is why the United States must maintain and develop its economic strategic advantage to counter the competitive threat posed by the CCP so that it can protect U.S. businesses, key industrial chains and U.S. leadership in the world.
He cites Chinese companies as an example of how the CCP has infiltrated the United States.
China’s state-owned rolling stock manufacturer, China CNR, is one of many Chinese companies trying to intervene in U.S. infrastructure, Jimenez writes. CNR tried to bid on contracts to provide cars for the Miami-Dade County light rail system. The Chinese Communist state-owned company provided several freight cranes to the Port of Miami, making us vulnerable to potential threats because the Chinese Communist Party would have the ability to access information on port shipments and the condition of port infrastructure, and in effect through these implanted facilities give them the ability to control the freight coming in and out of our ports.
The Rail Security Alliance of America (RSA) has been working to warn of the threat posed by the Chinese CNR. The coalition believes that China CNR will eventually expand from rail coaches and dominate the U.S. rail freight sector due to the support of Communist state capital that it enjoys. “It would be nice if they operated under the same rules as France, Germany, Canada, South Korea and Japan,” said RSA member Erik Olson, “but that’s not the rule they follow.”
The RSA also believes that modern rail vehicles contain advanced technology that includes sensors and control systems for everything from tracking to regulating temperature. Vehicles made by the Chinese cars would likely be a tool for Communist espionage if they were to enter the Washington Metro system.
Gimenez concludes in the article that the CCP controls a supply chain that has weaknesses throughout the country, from supplying over-the-counter drugs used by the U.S. military to producing most everyday American household items.
Citing Other Threatening Communist Actions, Biden Administration Urged to Counter Communist China
On a larger scale and in more areas, Jimenez said, the Chinese Communist Party is stepping up its efforts to manipulate world markets, steal data from U.S. companies and steal critical and emerging U.S. technologies in order to gain more intelligence and achieve military objectives. In total disregard of international practices and norms, the CCP has used the technology of international Chinese companies such as huawei to detect and punish Uighurs of the Muslim faith, and has also refused to accept responsibility for triggering the Communist Chinese virus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Secretary of State Blinken said during his confirmation hearing that the Trump administration is right to be tough on China, and Jimenez agreed with Blinken’s statement, but he hopes that these perceptions will be carried throughout the Biden administration.
He singled out Commerce Secretary nominee Gina Raimondo and questioned Raimondo’s failure to commit to keeping companies like Huawei on the Commerce Department’s sanctions blacklist during his confirmation hearing.
At the end of the article, Jimenez urged the Biden administration to commit to maintaining the U.S. strategy of great power competition. If Biden does so, he said, he will gain his own support to help defend the United States from the threat of Chinese Communist global hegemony.
