The Chinese Communist Foreign Ministry suddenly brought up congratulating Biden
On 13 November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Chinese Communist Party abruptly changed its tone of not congratulating the United States Democrat Biden on his election for the time being.
In response to a reporter’s question about Biden’s election, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, “We congratulate Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris”; added that “we respect the choice of the American people”; and said, “We understand that the results of the United States election will be determined in accordance with the laws and procedures of the United States.”
Subsequently, overseas Chinese media and Hong Kong media reported that the Chinese Foreign Ministry congratulated Biden on his victory.
But on November 9, Wang Wenbin also said that the reason for not congratulating Biden was that “the results of the election will be determined in accordance with U.S. laws and procedures” and that China would follow “international practice”.
